Ehsaas for Students – The Largest Undergraduate Scholarship Program in Pakistan

Update on 26th October, 2021: Application for Ehsaas scholarship program is sought! Students will get a 100% waiver on tuition fees and receive a stipend of 4,000 Rs per month. Students enrolled in fall 2021 with a monthly household income of 45,000 are eligible for the Ehsaas Scholarship.
Dr. Sania Nishtar, special assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty alleviation and Social Protection, said that “the scholarship is being provided to equip low-income families with higher education.” She informed the media on Monday that 50,000 scholarships would be awarded to the deserving students under Ehsaas Scholarship in this education year.
During the last two years, around 142,000 scholarships were provided nationwide. According to the rules of the Ehsaas Scholarship program, the scholarships have been and will be awarded strictly on merit-cum need bases. As Ehsaas Scholarship plan, 2 Lac scholarships will be awarded in the 4-year degree program. The recipients will receive the scholarship amount throughout their undergraduate academic program. The objective of the Ehsaas scholarship program:
Ehsaas scholarship is part of the broader imitative of Imran Khan, the ’Ehsaas Program.’ The objective of this broader program is to address the needs of the poor, orphans, widows, homeless, disabled, those who need medical care, jobless, laborers, sick, and poverty. Ehsaas program also helps students from low-income backgrounds to complete education.
Ehsaas undergraduate scholarship program is Pakistan’s largest undergraduate scholarship program. The objective is to support undergraduate-level students who leave education after intermediate due to limited financial resources.
Usually, the scholarships are given to MS and Ph.D. programs, but Ehsaas scholarship envisions providing financial support to 4 and 5-year undergraduate programs.
Under the Ehsaas Scholarship program, 2 Lac scholarships will be guaranteed in four years tenure. It means fifty thousand scholarships will be guaranteed each year to deserving students. The scholarship is need-based, but merit has lots of weightage in the granting process of the scholarship.
The government will gauge the academic performance of the students who are applying for the scholarship. It will be covering tuition fees with a stipend to meet the candidate’s needs.
The scholarships are reserved 50% for female students and 2% for disabled students. All of these details were announced at the launching ceremony in 2019 by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The ceremony was attended by government officials and rectors of 70 different universities.

Here are the eligibility criteria for Ehsaas undergraduate scholarship program
- The funded scholarships apply to both public and private colleges and universities.
- The academic performance will be checked through academic records.
- Merit-based students can apply only in the undergraduate program. Merit means the admission criteria of the relevant institution the student intends to take admission to.
- The monthly income of the family is under 45,000 per month.
- Enrolled in any undergraduate programs recognized by HEC
- Falls under the age limit of the admission of the relevant institutions.
- Students from FATA, AJK, Gilgit Baltistan, and Islamabad can also apply to Ehsaas’s undergraduate scholarship program.
- Scholarships are available for students who are enrolled in four to five years undergraduate scholarship programs.
Who are not eligible?
- Students’ already availing any scholarship or grant
- Those enrolled in affiliated colleges and distant learning programs in both the public and private sectors.
- Get admission on a self-sustaining and self-support basis already or take admission in evening programs with a high fee structure.
What will Ehsaas scholarship cover?
The scholarship will cover the following things:
- 100% waiver of tuition fee
- A stipend to meet living expenses of 10,000 per year (1000 monthly for girls and 750 for boys).
How to apply?
Applying for Ehsaas undergraduate scholarship program is not difficult. To apply, you need to visit the official website of HEC for online registration. Here are the steps to register an account.
- Choose nationality
- Add your CNIC number
- Select the region you belong
- Enter the password of your choice (it must have 8 characters).
- Add mobile number in use and ensure that you have not blocked any promotional messages services as you might not receive messages related to the scholarship program on time.
- Enter email address (add only the primary account you use). The code will be sent there; click on the code to activate the account.
- After registration, you will need to sign in to your account.
- The account holder will be redirected to the dashboard to complete the profile before filling out the scholarship application form.
- To complete the profile, you will need to fill out the details like father’s occupation, ID number, region of domicile, etc. Once the profile is completed, you can access the Ehsaas undergraduate scholarship application on the same dashboard.
- Fill in the details and upload relevant documents.
- The complete application form is needed to be submitted to the Financial Aid office of the relevant universities.
- It is in the applicant’s best interest not to send the application directly to HEC and BISP.
